Community College football starts August 25th, for Kansas this is a big deal because we have four or five of the best community college teams in the country.

Independence(5),  Garden City(10),and Butler(13) have all been voted into the top 20 teams in the countries preseason power rankings, with Hutchinson and Coffeyville sitting just outside of the top 20. Last season saw EMCC, the original home of the award winning netflix documentary Last Chance U, take home that fabled third National Championship they searched for both years that they were shooting the show. This year they start the JUCO season ranked number one. With the runner-up from last season, Arizona Western just two spots behind. This year, yet again, will be a fun season for Kansas community college football not only do we deal with the drama of playing razor thin matchups against the best teams in the country but all of our top teams will play against the number two ranked team in preseason Iowa Western.

On top of the excitement of JUCO football Last Chance U the documentary series will return to Independence, Kansas for a second straight year. The documentary series moved to Kansas after two seasons in EMCC at the storied franchise that had come from nothing and is now the absolute powerhouse of community college world. They had hopes of capturing a national title while down there. But the entire time they were down there they talked about the old days of when they were building this program and how the director wished they could go back and record that. Well they found that in a little podunk town called Independence. This small town has built itself up after Kansas changed the old, racially accused rule that community colleges can only have a handful of out of state recruits so that Kansas schools can have unlimited number of out of state recruits.

This year is going to be a fun year in Kansas for community college and hopefully the national title will be brought back to the Sunflower State.
