No such thing as a day off in any professional sport, and the result of that is shown here as Isaiah Thomas and Kyrie Irving were traded today. Kyrie leaving Cleveland comes as no surprise to anyone, but what does surprise is where he is going and what Cleveland received.

Back in mid-to-late July, Kyrie Irving released a statement that informed everyone that he was unhappy with his home in Cleveland, as he felt as if he was just the younger brother and wasn’t getting the attention he deserved. Kyrie demanded a trade from the front office and they went to work looking to find a team to make a deal with… and they found one. The Boston Celtics have had a pretty good offseason with star free agent pick up Gordon Hayward and the number three overall pick in the draft of Jayson Tatum. This trade comes as a decent shock, to me at least. The Celtics traded IT, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic, and the Nets 2018 first round pick. Isaiah Thomas posted some amazing numbers and some amazing fourth quarter clutch moments last year which earned him his first all-star weekend appearance. I was looking at the future of the Celtics behind IT, and it was looking pretty bright, but now the franchise will take on a new face, one that wears a ring.

Kyrie Irving will take the reigns as starting point guard. The only fault that I see is the whole self-image thing Kyrie was worried about out in Boston while they haven’t had “head-line talent” for quite some time, so they have done well to avoid placing a face on the team, such as other franchises have done like OKC, Houston, and San Antonio. While this poses no threat to the team’s success, it is a fun thing to watch. Another interesting thing about this trade is just how abrupt it is. Isaiah’s contract won’t expire ‘til next year, and he was looking to extend during the upcoming season, but will now look to make a name under the self-proclaimed king of basketball Lebron James.
