The Florida Gators have finally won their first CWS title! It against their co-SEC championship rivals, LSU.

Florida has been to the CWS championship series ten times before and every time they came up short. That was until this year when they were led by head coach Kevin O’Sullivan. The Florida Gators were in a closely contested game with a one-point lead in the eighth inning, but they would score five runs blowing open the door to the 6-1 sweeping win to bring home the title.

LSU suffered real heartbreak with this loss after several of their players said no to the draft last year to return to get to this championship series, and to come so close and to see it be taken away is very tough. Many LSU players will be seen playing in the next level next year, but they will always remember how close they were to claiming the elusive title. Especially pitcher Alex Lange who was 3 strikeouts away from the LSU all-time record. If LSU would have won game 2 Alex Lange would have been the starting pitcher and with an average 7 strikeouts in the College World Series! This also breaks the undefeated streak LSU had in the CWS they are now 6-7 when appearing in the CWS championship series.

Congrats to the Gators on winning!
