Andover Kansas – Suzie Thien

Sunshine children’s home is a project of SCARF (children’s advocacy and rights foundation). The foundation broke ground on the 1.5 million home in January 2014. The home is 11,400 square feet, has 8 bedrooms, there are 1 to 2 beds in each room, as well as a beautiful nursery. The home can accommodate up to 15 children.  The children will begin arriving as early as October 27, 2014. The children’s home serves Butler, Elk, Greenwood Counties.  The children coming into the home are faced with hardship, grievous enough to warrant their removal from the home. They are best served by caring professionals in their communities.

Friday October 24.2014 at 3:15 pm was ribbon cutting. A beautiful table of delicious desserts from Sweetly Scrumptious was set and the house was filled with people touring for the first time.  The girl’s bedrooms are on one side of the hall, the boys on the other. There are girl showers as well as boys and each is tastefully decorated. There is a large living room with a cozy fireplace, laundry room with multiple washer/dryers, Dining area, fully equipped kitchen and a very nice backyard with a playground. Each room is sponsored by an individual or business.  There are gates to enter the premises. It lies on the outskirts of Andover which gives it a nice country feel.  You can tell a lot of love went into building and decorating this home.  Lots of details throughout the house such  decals with positive sayings on the walls, pink comforters for girls and blue for boys, polka dot shower curtains for the  girls and stripe ones for the boys, bandanas tied to window sills to give it color.  Beginning with Suzie Thien, manager of the home, a lovely lady to meet as well as the rest of the stuff who all share a big heart to help these children, even if only for a brief time.  Sunshine home is where children are brought by law enforcement when removed from a home, their stay is up to 72 hours then they are placed into foster care.  My wish if for us to come together  as a community and help out these children in a time of need,  don’t ever think what you can do is too little, it’s every little bit that makes a difference.  Touch someone’s life today!
