On September 11th 2001 a tragedy happened. Unfortunately the deadliest terrorist attack in U.S. history occurred 18 years ago today, leaving the world in fear.

The morning of September 11th 2001, 19 hijackers turned airplanes into weapons killing 3,000 innocent people. The majority of lives were taken at the World Trade Center in New York. The building collapsed hours after the planes hit. Another plane hit the Pentagon and aboard flight 93 and it’s believed Flight 93 was headed towards the Washington, D.C. In the Pentagon hundreds more of innocent lives where taken.

Around 6,000 people were injured in this outrageous attack, leaving $10 billion worth of damage. Years later, some people died from  9/11- related cancers and respiratory disease.

The attacks led to U.S. wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

I wasn’t born during this time.  I only see pictures and watch the video.  I only know the world after this tragic event.  Which makes me wonder, what the world would be like if it had not been for 9/11.  As a teenager we record EVERYTHING!  If a fight breaks out or is police are treating someone unfair, we are quick to grab our phones.  I wonder if that is because of 9/11?  I guess there were not as many people with cell phones and cameras back then.  The footage that I see online is not nearly as much if the event happened today.  There may have been a lot we could have learned from the people inside the building too.  However, I am not sure I would have wanted to see the videos of the people say goodbye to their family before jumping out the window.

There seems to be a lot of hate too.  Not like when my parents were growing up.  They talk about the problems between black people and white people.  Today, there seems to be a joint hate against Muslims.  Just thinking about it, I have been afraid of Muslims and I didn’t know why.

The impact of 9/11 has had a major impact on our country, like those who have respiratory issues and died years after, we as a country are still suffering from this event.
