With DC’s Shazam coming out this Friday off of the success of last years Aquaman movie it seems the DC cinematic universe (DCCU?) is looking good. A DC released a teaser trailer for the new Joker film starring Joaquin Phoenix and if its anything to judge the whole movie by, we are in for a fun ride.
Joker is going to be the origin story based of the DC Comics character the clown prince himself Joker. He is best known for being the Yin to Batmans Yang. Without Joker there is no Batman and vise versa but that’s some deep comic book nerd stuff to save for another topic. First reactions the Joker trailer looks really dark and twisted and acts more like a character study more than anything. Warner Bros. Pictures is billing this film as a psychological thriller and it will dive deep into the mind of the Joker. Hopefully, we find out why the Joker does what he does and what really forced him to go down this path of crime.
The movie takes place in the 80’s and the movie will have a young Bruce Wayne, played by up and coming child actor Danta Pereira-Olson, Burce’s parents will still be alive so this film will very much take place before the Batman. The real questions I have after watching the first trailer for the film do this fall in with DC’s already established extended universe that includes Aquaman, Wonder Women, and Shazam, or does it start a whole new path for DC movies to come. I guess only time will tell. Joker will be in theaters this October and is Directed by Todd Phillips.
