Miitomo- A More Social, Social Media

By April 1, 2016No Comments

Nintendo is known mainly for their hardware but they decided to dip their foot into the software realm. Miitomo is a new spin on social media. it is designed to be more personal and more interactive.

personal-

Miitomo allows you to create a detailed avatar that you use to interact with other people. With the app you can change everything such as their facial features, voice, and personality. With facial features you can change the shape, the size, and the position of it on the face. The same amount of detail can be changed with your avatar’s voice as well as your personality. The closest app to this would be sims. You might not be able to get the avatar to be a perfect replica of yourself but Miitomo does a good job of attempting to do so. They even have an option to use your actual picture, from your gallery or just using your front camera, to auto create faces for you. Aside from these features one can other things about your avatar such as your outfit and accessories. All and all Miitomo adds an extra personal level to social media.

Interative-

The purpose of Miitomo is to connect you to other people. Unlike other platforms you don’t just post whatever is on your mind. This app is more geared around getting to know the people in a more deep level than just seeing what they have to say. The way they do this is by asking you questions and you answer them. The answers you put are shared with your friends and this allows them to learn more about you. All the questions are not all simple:  for example one question asked “ Imagine flowers blooming in your mind’s eye….How many flowers do you see?”  ON the surface it seems like a question about flowers but your friends see that Miitomo used your answer to infer how many serious relationships you see yourself having. Questions like these are what drives the personal interaction.

The bad-

There’s only one game you can play in the app and other than that game you’re limited to asking and answering questions. To some this could get boring. The app also is playground for filthy minds, being able to say whatever means people will say… Whatever they choose. Another bad things is that whenever you leave the app the text that you were typing gets erased and it loads for a few seconds. It is a minor gripe but it’s still inconvenient

All and all this is an interesting app with a few new spins to social media that will make talking to people a little more interesting. I am looking forward to the next update.
Stay tuned for a full review of the app!
