What’s up, TVM World! Dream Con 2026 is right around the corner, and TVM All Access plans to give you the front row look at everything going on at the premier entertainment convention. We have 4 days of pre-coverage to get you ready for the event. If this is your first time attending or even your fifth, TVM All Access plans to be your unofficial guide to this year’s Dream Con.
Today we will focus on the few unwritten rules that’ll help you have an amazing weekend.
Dream Con is where anime, gaming, cosplay, creators, and internet culture all collide. That means you’ll see incredible costumes, meet people from all over, and probably spend more money than you planned.
Before you head out, here’s your unofficial 5 Do’s and Don’ts Dream Con survival guide.
Number 1 DO: Hype Up Cosplayers
If you see someone dressed as your favorite anime character, video game icon, or superhero, let them know they crushed it.
A simple “Your cosplay is fire!” can make someone’s day.
Want a picture? Just ask first. Most cosplayers are happy to pose, but remember they’re people enjoying the convention too, not attractions. Respect goes a long way.
Number 2 DO: Hydrate!
Houston, Texas, in the summer is incredibly hot! 🥵 Between walking the convention floor, waiting in lines, shopping, and attending panels, you’ll quickly burn through energy.
So, it’s highly recommended to take breaks between panels to rest your legs, hydrate, and have a snack.
As a seasoned veteran of music festivals and conventions, I can assure you that drinking water and taking time to eat are crucial.
And when the convention ends for the day, GO OUT AND HAVE SOME REAL FOOD. Houston is a big city with plenty of options. Take one night to enjoy some good quality food. On the other nights, feel free to have that bag of chips.
Number 3 DO: Have a Game Plan
The weekend at Dream Con is a whirlwind of activities, and it’s easy to get overwhelmed. To make the most of your time, it’s crucial to have a game plan before you arrive.
At one moment watching the cosplay contest, the next you find yourself standing in line for official Dream Con merchandise you just have to have. Download the official Dream Con App from the app store.
This app will be your ultimate companion throughout the weekend, providing you with the most up-to-date times and schedule. Additionally, it will help you discover must-see events that you want to attend.
Number 4 DO: Wear Comfortable Shoes
If you plan on wearing new shoes at the convention, it’s smart to break them in NOW!
Plan to do a lot of walking. Dream Con is Huge and its seprated by 3 levels of the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas.
If you are doing cosplay and the fit absolutely requires it, wear comfortable shoes or bring a backup pair. Trust us, your future self will be grateful after miles of convention walking.
Number 5 DO: Make New Friends
One of the coolest parts of Dream Con is the people. Going has always been a positive experience every year
Feel free to compliment someone’s cosplay. Jump into a group photo. Talk to the people waiting in line with you. Play with someone in the gaming hall.
Everyone is there because they love the same kinds of things you do, so don’t be afraid to say hello.
Who knows? Your next best friend or convention crew could be standing right next to you.
Now that we’ve covered the dos, here are some major don’ts when it comes to attending Dream Con or any convention in general.
Number 1 DON’T: Treat Cosplayers Like NPCs
Cosplayers are not props.
Don’t touch their costumes, grab their weapons, or ask for weird poses without permission. Let everyone have their space.
If you wouldn’t want a random stranger doing it to you, don’t do it to someone else. We can’t stress this enough: COSPLAY IS NOT CONSENT!
Number 2 DON’T: Stop in the Middle of the Walkway
We get it. You just spotted the cleanest One Piece cosplay you’ve ever seen.
But if you slam on the brakes in the middle of a crowded hallway, you’ll create a traffic jam. There will be thousands of people at Dream Con.
Step to the side before taking photos or catching up with friends.
Our pro tip: if someone is already posing for a photo, kindly ask them if you can take one too. 9 times out of 10, they will say yes, but be mindful they might be in a hurry to get somewhere too.
Number 3 DON’T: Forget About Hygiene
There is no easy way to put it: WASH YOUR BUTT!
Be the person who remembered deodorant, not the person everyone remembers for a different reason.
Avoid the “Convention crud”; a shower, clean clothes, and a little deodorant go a long way.
Number 4 DON’T: Spend Your Entire Budget in the First 10 Minutes
Artist Alley and the vendor hall are dangerous places for your wallet.
Walk around first, compare prices.
Then decide what deserves your hard-earned cash.
And make sure you have enough money to eat good food, and possibly the ride to and from the convention.
Number 5 DON’T Be “That” Person
Nobody likes the fan who:
- Spoils the latest anime at full volume.
- Starts arguments over who’s a “real fan.”
- Interrupts panels to make themselves the main character.
- Makes guests or other attendees uncomfortable.
Dream Con is all about celebrating the culture. Be respectful, be patient, and help make the weekend fun for everyone. Don’t ruin someone else’s Dream Con.
Overall, be kind. Be respectful. Laugh, take photos, meet new people, and enjoy every moment. Whether you’re hunting for exclusive merch, showing off your cosplay, or just soaking in the atmosphere, Dream Con is all about having fun together.
Now charge your phone, pack that portable charger, double-check your cosplay, and get ready for an unforgettable weekend.
