Cyberbullying among young people is a major issue, but what would you do if it was by someone you trust?

A student with developmental disability was a victim of cyberbullying at her elementary school, Gammon. Her kindergarten teacher took several videos of her crying, posted them to social media and captioned them saying, “ This is what I have to deal with.” and “She is still at it ya’ll.” The mother was only finally notified a couple days later about the incident. Although the teacher is no longer the teacher in the kindergarten classroom she is still employed in the district as a roving teacher. She can still work at the administrative office and possibly still work with students! The mother has talked to an attorney and wrote a letter to the Human Resources department of the USD 259 district in hopes the teacher will be fired. Parents Who Care, an advocacy group, is on her side and working with her to get justice. Both the advocacy group and the mother planned an upcoming protest at the district administrator’s office and will be at a school board meeting to talk about the social media policy for the school district. A go fund me page has been set up to help with legal fees and help with the emotional toll that has been put on this child.

A protest will be held at Alvin E Morris building at 6:00pm on Monday. The address is 903 S. Edgemoore.
